Music Assignment

Dubstep: I would add Bassnectar to this category. They use a heavy amount of technology in their songs, creating the beats electronically. They also include sound bites from various sources, which are electronically edited to change their pitch, speed, and other factors. Bassnectar began creating music in the 90s, releasing his first album in 2001, after becoming deeply involved in the electronic music scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRftXCiqfQ8

Nineties: I would add Smash Mouth to this category. Their most well-known song “All Star” features the use of electronic instruments. The music video for the song contains a modified version of the song, with an intro, sound effects, and dialogue to set the tone of the video in a comedic way. The video also contains special effects in terms of the visuals. This song was posted to Youtube in 2009 and has nearly 200 million views to date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_jWHffIx5E

Punk: I would add The Offspring to this category. Like many other punk bands, they use electronic guitars that are often distorted. Their music videos embody the punk genre very well. They have dark tones and subject matter, which goes well with the distorted instrument. The use of special effects is very heavy, amplifying the feelings already produced by the audio and video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iNbnineUCI

Electronic- Producer/DJ culture: For this category, I would add Wolfgang Gartner. This music is entirely electronically produced, sometimes containing edited sound bites and vocals that accompany the music. Even the album covers have an electronically created look, some appearing to be digitally compiled images, others having neon colors that give an electric feel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_rQ6Av0gMY

Latin World: I would add Loona to this category. Her music is electronically created, using many different loops that are fast-paced and upbeat. It appears that her voice is auto tuned to a certain extent. In her live performances, the vocals that were edited in the recording (such as those that echo) are played from a track to keep the original sound of the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20b82sfFtFQ
